Shafiqul Alam

Shafiqul Alam is IEEFA's Lead Analyst, Energy, for Bangladesh. He has more than 15 years of experience in the energy and climate change sectors. His work centres on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate finance.

Before joining IEEFA, he worked in various capacities with international development agencies and private-sector organisations on energy transition and climate change mitigation. He led the formulation of national clean energy regulations, implemented award-winning climate change mitigation projects under the Clean Development Mechanism, and conducted sectoral and organisational development needs assessments to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. He has also conducted exploratory research on carbon pricing and policy instruments to advance the clean energy transition. In the last decade and a half, he has published extensively, on both domestic and international platforms, to advocate for advancing clean energy transition and climate-resilient development.

In 2018, he received the prestigious International Climate Protection Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany. He is also a recipient of the Clean Energy Fellowship from the National Bureau of Asian Research, the US.
 

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master's degree in Environmental Economics, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in finance.
