IEEFA and the International Accountability Project (IAP) launched the Global MDB Petrochemicals Investments Tracker on 18 August 2026. The interactive tracker maps 92 petrochemical projects worth USD10.04 billion across 16 multilateral development banks (MDBs), providing insights into how public finance continues to support the petrochemical industry.

The webinar ‘Closing the petrochemical loophole: Multilateral development banks and the fossil economy’ was organised on 9 September 2026 to introduce the tracker’s key elements and its utility to potential users, apart from presenting key findings from the analysis of the database.

The following speakers, representing various organisations, presented their findings at the webinar:

Swathi Seshadri, Research Lead – Global Petrochemicals, IEEFA
Vibhuti Garg, Director – South Asia, IEEFA
Alessandro Ramazzotti, Researcher, IAP
Fredric Bauer, Senior Lecturer – Technology and Society, Lund University, Sweden

Nelly Umoren, Community Mobilizer, Coordinator, Greenleaf Advocacy and Empowerment Center
Marco Vermaasen, Senior Environment Manager, Bank Information Centre
