Swathi Seshadri is Research Lead, Global Petrochemicals at IEEFA, where she examines the petrochemical industry's financial dynamics, investment trends, and role in the fossil fuel value chain.
She created and leads the Global MDB Investments in Petrochemicals Tracker, an interactive database mapping petrochemical financing by 16 multilateral development banks across 93 projects worth more than USD10 billion.
A long-time observer to the UN Global Plastics Treaty negotiations, she has contributed economic analysis on plastic market trends, production caps, and trade provisions in the negotiations.
Prior to IEEFA, she served as Director (Programmes) and Team Lead, Oil and Gas at the Centre for Financial Accountability, where she mapped petrochemical infrastructure and investment across the Asia-Pacific region, supported organisations building research capacity on petrochemicals, and published on India's petrochemical policy contradictions.
She previously worked for two decades across social justice issues, including mental health and disability rights, and youth mobilisation.
She holds a Master's in Commerce from Mumbai University and a Master's in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. When not tracking the fossil economy's downstream investments, she splits her time between her cats and whatever book she can't put down.
