IEEFA Welcomes Karl Cates as Director of Media Relations

September 23, 2014

Karl Cates, a former editor for Bloomberg LP and the New York Times, has joined the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) as Director of Media Relations.  Cates will develop press materials for IEEFA, ramp up the organization’s online presence, and provide the media with in-depth background on energy finance issues.

At Bloomberg, Cates was a founding editor of Bloomberg Briefs digital newsletters. He has served as a consultant and senior vice president of communications for Opportunity Finance Network (OFN), the national organization of U.S. Treasury Department-certified community development financial institutions, and has worked as a reporter, columnist and editor for newspapers in Arkansas, Utah, and California. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

“Karl brings a wealth of experience as a professional journalist and through his work with the non-profit Opportunity Finance Network,” said Sandy Buchanan, IEEFA executive director. “We’re very pleased to welcome him to our team.” Cates can be reached by email at [email protected], by phone at 917-439-8225, or via Twitter @ieefa_institute.
