IEEFA Welcomes Carrie LaSeur to Its Board of Directors

February 20, 2015

CLEVELAND Jan. 21, 2015 (IEEFA.org) — The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis has elected Carrie LaSeur, an energy and environmental attorney based in Montana, to its board of directors.

CarrieLaSeur-6977LaSeur founded and serves on the board of directors of Plains Justice, a non-profit organization that provides a legal, scientific and technical voice for northern plains communities to conserve natural resources and to make the transition to a new energy future. She joined the legal firm of Baumstark Braaten Law Partners in Billings in September 2012.

A seventh-generation descendant of Montana homesteaders, LaSeur is a Rhodes Scholar and Yale Law graduate whose commentary and analysis have appeared in a variety of publications including the Des Moines Register; Grist; Harvard Law and Policy Review; Huffington Post; Mother Jones; Oil, Gas, and Energy Law; and Salon. William Morrow published her debut novel, “The Home Place,” a literary thriller set in Montana, in July 2014.

“We’re very lucky to have Carrie join us,” said Larry Shapiro, president of IEEFA’s board. “The institute’s predecessor organization’s very first project in 2007 was analyzing the financial impacts of a proposed coal plant on ratepayers in Iowa for Plains Justice, when Carrie led that organization. She was a joy to work with. In large part due to her work, that plant, which would have been a financial debacle, was never built. She will be a great addition to our board.”
