Norman Waite is a former IEEFA energy finance analyst. Early in his IEEFA tenure Norman estimated insurance company AIA’s potential exposure to coal-related investments in late 2020. That report contributed to the insurer’s eventual divestment of over USD10B in coal-related assets in 2021.

Norman first visited Asia in 1986 and has now lived in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China for more than 27 years. Norman was a successful regional equity analyst and equity salesperson for various firms since 1996.

Norman has been active in environmental work since working for Greenpeace in 1990. While living in Taipei Norman’s research for Earthtrust on the sale of tiger bone by local medicine shops led to tighter policing of such products. While at Salomon Brothers Norman received an Earth Award from CEO Deryck Maughan for work on a recycling program for the Hong Kong office.

Norman graduated from Yale University with two master’s degrees in Business Administration and Environmental Studies. He has studied Mandarin in Taipei, Nanjing, and Beijing. Norman earned bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy and Asian Studies from Hobart & William Smith Colleges.
