Purva Jain

Purva Jain is Lead Energy Specialist, Gas & International Advocacy, South Asia at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA). With over 14 years of experience across the energy and development sectors, she produces research and policy analysis on natural gas and LNG markets, clean cooking, energy subsidies, methane emissions, and energy security in India and the broader South Asian region.

Her recent work has focused on the economics of India's LNG dependence, the case for electric cooking as a cost-effective alternative to fossil-fuel-based cooking, the fiscal burden of energy subsidies, and methane abatement in India's coking coal sector

Prior to joining IEEFA, Purva worked with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and other policy research organisations. She also served for three years with India's Ministry of Finance in the Department of Economic Affairs, working on international economic relations with a focus on the G20 Sherpa track, SAARC, and related bilateral engagements.

Purva's research and commentary have been featured in The Hindu, NDTV Profit, ET EnergyWorld, Outlook Business, and the World Economic Forum's Agenda platform, among other national and international outlets.

She holds a Master's degree in Economics from the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning (CESP), Jawaharlal Nehru University, and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi.
