Kaieteur News in collaboration with Kaieteur Radio will host a live-streamed end-of-year debate in Guyana on December 31 at 11:00 AM GYT (10:00 AM EST).
Panelists will explore Guyana’s first year as an oil-producing state, what went right, what went wrong, the global outlook for oil and gas, and the steps needed to ensure transparency and to protect the interests of Guyana.
Oil exploration off the coast of Guyana is being conducted by an international consortium led by ExxonMobil with China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) and Hess. Operations may generate revenues for the companies but may leave Guyana hundreds of millions of dollars in debt.
The event will feature Tom Sanzillo, director of financial analysis at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA); Valérie Marcel, an oil industry and energy policy expert; Melinda Janki, an international environmental and human rights lawyer, and David Patterson, AFC member and shadow minister for the oil sector. Kaieteur News anchor Kiana Wilburg will moderate.
The event will be streamed on Kaieteur Radio’s Facebook page and made accessible on Kaieteur News online:
