IEEFA Australia: Announcing staffing transitions

February 03, 2022

3 February 2022 (IEEFA Australia): The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) announced several changes today to its team in Australia.

Tim Buckley, a former Citigroup managing director who has led IEEFA’s work in Australia for the past eight years, is leaving the organisation to pursue a number of independent research projects in the energy finance sector.

Robin Cowdery, who has held executive positions in a number of non-profit organisations in Australia, has been appointed Transitional CEO for the Australia team. IEEFA’s 15-member team in Australia covers a wide range of energy issues, including the electricity sector, gas, coal mining and coal plants, industrial decarbonisation, and global finance. A search for a permanent regional CEO will be announced shortly.

Sandy Buchanan, IEEFA’s executive director, praised Tim Buckley’s work.

“Everyone at IEEFA is very grateful to Tim for the leadership he has taken in shaping the debate on energy finance issues in Australia and around the globe, for the high caliber and cutting-edge nature of his research and analysis, and for the numerous ways he has contributed to the organisation.

“We know that Tim will continue to play a leading role in the analysis of finance and energy markets, and we look forward to continuing to learn from him and from each other about the issues that are critically important to the energy transition.”

Tim Buckley said, “It has been my pleasure to work with the talented team at IEEFA, from analysing the financial weaknesses of the proposed greenfield coal mines in the Galilee Basin, to the fast-paced dynamics of the energy transition in India, and new technology developments in renewable energy.

“As global capital moves away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy, I am looking forward to continuing to identify financial strategies to sweep away obstacles in the path of the transition.”

IEEFA is a not-for-profit research organisation whose mission is to accelerate the global energy transition. The organisation is headquartered in the U.S., with a team of 50 analysts and communications professionals based in 10 countries.
