Gaurav Upadhyay is IEEFA’s Energy Finance Analyst, India Sustainable Finance, for South Asia. He has over 12 years of experience implementing large-scale developmental initiatives in diverse sectors, including climate finance, just transition and renewable energy.
Before joining IEEFA, Gaurav worked as a Climate and Energy Consultant at the World Bank, where he played a pivotal role in orchestrating the implementation of multisectoral lending and technical assistance projects. He has also worked with prestigious international organizations such as UNICEF, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and GVK-EMRI. He received the Prime Minister Rural Development (PMRD) fellowship from the Ministry of Rural Development in 2014, which gave him a chance to work closely with the central and state governments for a two-year period.
Gaurav advocates for clean energy and climate mitigation. He has represented the World Bank and other organizations at high-profile forums dedicated to addressing energy transition challenges. He holds a master’s degree in Development Practices and a master’s degree in Disaster Management, both from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai, and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Rajasthan University.
