James Bowen is the Lead Analyst for Australian Industrial Decarbonisation at IEEFA. He assesses challenges and opportunities for transitioning Australia’s legacy heavy industry and developing new clean commodity and technology value chains.
James was previously a senior analyst at Climate Analytics, where he led a program on Chinese industrial decarbonisation, among other industry-linked projects.
As director of policy consultancy ReMap Research, James undertook energy transition-linked work for clients including NGOs, philanthropies, technology hubs, and think tanks. He previously worked on the same issues for foreign policy think tanks, universities, and political risk firms, and as a speechwriter and journalist, both in Australia and abroad.
James holds a Bachelor of Arts in English (majoring in journalism) from Curtin University of Technology and a Master of Arts in International Relations from Griffith University.
James lives in Fremantle, Western Australia, and is actively engaged in the local community, including serving as president of the parents and citizens association of his children’s primary school.
