Agustín Irizarry teaches graduate and undergraduate courses at Universidad de Puerto Rico Mayaguez on electric power systems fundamentals, analysis, control and design, and power systems conversion.
Dr. Irizarry conducts research on renewable energy and how to adapt the existing power grid to add more sustainable resources. He has served as a consultant to communities, environmental organizations, government, and private entities and as an expert witness in civil court cases.
He has authored or coauthored over 50 refereed publications, and has been a licensed professional engineer in Puerto Rico since 1991 and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Dr. Irizarry served as Vice President of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority Board, the first-ever consumer representative to hold the position
