Last year wind power was the main source of electricity generation in Spain, the country’s wind association AEE has revealed. 

The closing figures for 2021 found that wind technology has registered more than 23% of the total production in the country, the largest in the national generation mix.

Furthermore, wind power is also the technology in the Spanish energy system with the highest installed power with 28,073MW in place.

Overall, renewables achieved its best record, producing in 2021 more than 46% of all electricity in Spain, almost 10% more than last year.

In addition, on December 8, wind energy surpassed 20,000MW of instantaneous generation for the first time in history.

Furthermore, on December 29 at 3:03 a.m, wind power covered 83.6% of the peninsular demand.

The autonomous communities with the highest installed wind power in Spain are Castilla y León, Aragón and Castilla La Mancha, AEE said.
