Swiss fund manager SUSI to invest in renewables in Southeast Asia

January 31, 2023

Renewables Now:

Swiss fund manager SUSI Partners will develop utility-scale renewable energy projects in Southeast Asia through a new platform set up together with local partner Pacific Impact Development.

The platform will focus on the financing, construction and operation of greenfield solar, wind and hydropower assets. Its target markets will be the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia and other countries in Southeast Asia, SUSI said on Tuesday.

The new entity will be a joint venture of SUSI’s flagship Asia energy transition fund SAETF and Singapore-based renewables developer Pacific Impact. The latter will be the developer and project manager for the platform.

The pair will bet on Pacific Impact’s experience in the development of renewable energy projects, coupled with its presence in all target markets, and SUSI’s extensive investment background. Last year, the Swiss group established a solar PV development platform in Italy, targeting some 500 MW of capacity.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations aims to have 23% of its primary energy supplied by renewables by 2025. Estimates by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) show, however, that in order to reach the target, the region will need to more than double its investments in the clean energy sector.
