Apex Clean Energy Inc. has entered into an agreement with Weyerhaeuser Co. for the development of 1,000 MW of utility-scale solar and solar-plus-storage projects on Weyerhaeuser land in the southeastern U.S.
Apex will lead the development of the portfolio, which includes projects that could reach commercial operations as early as 2023, the company said in a Dec. 9 news release. Weyerhaeuser, which owns timberlands and manufactures wood products, owns approximately 11 million acres in the U.S. and manages additional land in Canada under long-term licenses.
“This agreement with Apex is a great step in advancing Weyerhaeuser’s strategic growth in renewable energy development, and it supports our broader commitment to sustainability and providing natural climate solutions across our land base,” Weyerhaeuser Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer Russell Hagen said in the release.
