U.S. Wind Generation Up 16% in First Half of 2017


U.S. wind generation increased 16% year over year during the first half of 2017, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data.

Nine of the 10 states with the most wind generation saw a first-half 2017 increase in electricity output of at least 3% year over year. Of those states, Kansas had the largest year-to-year increase in net wind generation, at 35.9%. North Dakota and Oklahoma also saw wind generation increase at least 30%.

According to the analysis, 11,580 MW of wind capacity has come online since the beginning of 2016, including 6,681 MW in high-wind areas such as Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
